[23:06, 9/28/2019] Judi Felber: We went to Jerusalem twice last week. The first time was planned. Nathaniel went to Hadassah Hospital to have a CT scan so that the skull bone graft could be created, per the instructions of the neurosurgeon, to plan the cranioplasty surgery. Then, we went to his clinic at the hospital, where we waited for a long time (hours). Finally, we saw him, after he had left for an emergency and then returned. All seems ready to go, except that Nathaniel has a head wound (skin) that still hasn't healed. He can't have the cranioplasty until this wound heals. The neurosurgeon wanted us to see the plastic surgeon. However, by the time we saw the neurosurgeon, the plastic surgeon was going into surgery. So, we had to come back to Jerusalem on Thursday. At that appointment, the plastic surgeon scheduled the surgery for next Monday (7 October). Hopefully the surgery will be uneventful and we will be able to return to rehab before Yom Kippur (starts Tuesday night). Then, we'll just wait until the surgical wound heals so we can schedule the cranioplasty.
On the rehab progress front: We are working with Nathaniel to answer Yes/No questions. We have a YES (כן) sign on one side of the table of his wheelchair and a NO (לא) sign on the other side. We ask him to answer questions. At one point, we were in the lobby where a DJ was playing music. I asked if he liked the music. He gave an unequivocal answer NO. Then I asked if he wanted to leave. He pointed to YES. So, we left. He's still not perfect with his answers, but we are working on it.
נסענו בשבוע שעבר פעמיים לירושלים. הפעם הראשונה הייתה מתוכננת, נתנאל היה צריך להגיע לבית חולים הדסה לבדיקת CT כדי שניתן יהיה לעשות את השתלת עצם הגולגולת, על פי הוראותיו של הנוירוכירורג, לתכנן את ניתוח הכליה. לאחר מכן הלכנו למרפאתו של הנוירוכירורג בבית החולים, שם חיכינו זמן רב (שעות). לבסוף פגשנו אותו, לאחר שהוא יצא לניתוח חירום וחזר. נראה שכולם מוכנים ללכת, לנתניאל יש פצע ראש שעדיין לא נרפא, ולכן אינו יכול לעבור את ניתוח המוח רק לאחר שהפצע יתרפא. הנוירוכירורג רצה שנפגוש את המנתח הפלסטי. מכיוון שמנתח הפלסטי היה בניתוח, היינו צריכים לחזור לירושלים ביום חמישי. בפגישה, קבע המנתח הפלסטי את הניתוח ליום שני הבא (7 באוקטובר). אני מקווה שהניתוח לא יהיה קשה ונוכל לחזור לשיקום לפני יום כיפור (מתחיל ביום שלישי בערב). לאחר מכן, נחכה עד שהפצע הניתוחי יירפא כדי שנוכל לתזמן את ניתוח המוח.
בחזית התקדמות השיקום: אנו עובדים עם נתנאל כדי לענות על שאלות כן/לא. יש לנו שלטים על שולחן כסא הגלגלים שלו עם השלטים האלה ואנחנו מבקשים ממנו לענות על שאלות. בשלב מסוים היה בלובי תקליטן שהשמיע מוזיקה. שאלתי אם הוא אוהב את המוזיקה. הוא נתן תשובה חד משמעית לא. ואז שאלתי אם הוא רוצה לעזוב. הוא הצביע על כן. אז יצאנו. הוא עדיין לא מושלם עם התשובות שלו, אבל אנחנו עובדים על זה.
