Nathaniel is doing more and more each day. The therapist held a jar that was closed with a lid. She asked Nathaniel to open the lid and he reached out his hand and began turning the lid in the wrong direction. The therapist said, "No, the other direction to open it." So, he began turning it in the correct direction until he removed the lid. The therapist then said, "Now take the small container out of the jar. Nathaniel reached his hand into the jar and removed a small container. The therapist then asked Nathaniel to put the small container back into the jar, which he did. The therapist then asked Nathaniel to pick up the lid from the tray of his wheelchair and twist it back on to cover the jar. Nathaniel was successful in doing this! While it's still unclear what Nathaniel can or cannot see, he clearly heard the instructions, processed them, and then had the motor ability to carry them out. He felt around for the jars and lids. The progress is encouraging.
Nathaniel likes the feel of human touch. He likes to feel people's hands and explore fingers (his own and those of others). One day he was feeling Adina's fingers and found her engagement ring. He was able to remove it from her finger. He was clumsy at first, but when we suggested that he use his thumb and index finger (pincer grasp?), he tried that with more success.
As for his seeing, we are working to get him to track objects with his eyes. Adina moved an orange ball from his left side to his right (which is hard for him) and told him to keep following the ball. He didn't like that, so he took his left hand, grabbed her arm, and moved it to the left side so he could see it, thus following her request.

נתנאל מתקדם בכל יום. המטפלת החזיקה צנצנת סגורה עם מכסה. היא ביקשה מנתנאל לפתוח את המכסה והוא הושיט את ידו והחל לסובב את המכסה לכיוון הלא נכון. המטפלת אמר "לא, צריך לפתוח בכיוון השני." אז הוא החל לסובב אותו בכיוון הנכון עד שהסיר את המכסה. המטפלת אמרה לו, "עכשיו תוציא את המיכל הקטן מהצנצנת." נתנאל הושיט את ידו לצנצנת והסיר את המיכל הקטן. לאחר מכן ביקשה המטפלת מנתנאל להחזיר את המיכל הקטן לצנצנת, ונתנאל עשה זאת. המטפלת ביקשה מנתנאל להרים את המכסה מהמגש בכסא הגלגלים שלו ולסובב אותו שוב לסגירת הצנצנת, ונתנאל הצליח בכך! למרות שעדיין לא ברור מה נתנאל יכול או לא יכול לראות, הוא שמע בבירור את ההוראות, הבין אותן ואז הייתה לו את היכולת המוטורית לבצע אותן. ההתקדמות מעודדת.
נתנאל אוהב את תחושת המגע האנושי. הוא אוהב לחוש את ידיהם של אנשים ולחקור אצבעות (שלו ושל אחרים). יום אחד הוא חש באצבעותיה של עדינה ומצא את טבעת האירוסין שלה. הוא הצליח להסיר אותו מהאצבע שלה. בהתחלה הוא היה מגושם, אבל כשהצענו לו להשתמש באגודל ובאצבע המורה (אחיזת פינצטה?), הוא ניסה זאת בהצלחה רבה יותר.
באשר לראייתו, אנו עובדים איתו כדי שיעקוב בעיניו אחר חפצים. עדינה העבירה כדור כתום מצד שמאל לימינו (שקשה לו) ואמרה לו להמשיך לעקוב אחר הכדור. הוא לא אהב את זה, אז הוא אחז בידו השמאלית, תפס בזרועה והעביר אותה לצד שמאל כדי שיוכל לראות אותה, ובכך עקב אחר בקשתה.
