Nathaniel’s eyes are not aligned. We don’t know what he sees or how he sees, but we know it is limited. His left eye works better, but it seems that he only has peripheral vision from that eye and he can’t look to the center. He can only see what is to the left of him. So, when he wants to look forward, he has to turn his head. The therapists suggested that he see a neuro ophthalmologist. This doctor suggested strabismus surgery to fix the eye muscles to give him a wider field of vision. Because Nathaniel is progressing so nicely, the neurosurgeon agreed that the risks of general anesthesia required for this surgery were worth it. So, today he underwent strabismus eye surgery to realign his eyes. Thank Gd the surgery went well. It took longer than expected because they did some special techniques. The doctor checked him later and was very pleased with how the eyes looked and moved. He needs eyedrops every hour so we are staying at the hospital another few days.
