Nathaniel is starting to learn how to play the keyboard (Roz, the teacher, is amazing). So far he is working on lifting one finger before pressing another key. He can move each finger on his left hand individually. He is learning three notes (do, re, me) He is working on reading the music and knowing which key to press. He is also working on pressing one key to the beat of recorded music that is played.
There is an electric instrument at rehab that has four keys to play with one hand and then a lever to use with the other hand. Nathaniel pushes the buttons with his left fingers and despite having had limited use of his right side, he can push the lever a bit with his right hand!
Words related to Pesach have been added to Nathaniel’s computer communication board. He likes it a lot and listens to recordings about the holiday by various rabbis.
In physical therapy, Nathaniel can now sit up by himself for up to 5 minutes. They are working on standing and moving from the bed to the wheelchair and back.
He can make facial expressions, like pucker and smile. Nathaniel raises his eyebrows and moves his head from side to side when he wants to let us know that the answer is neither yes nor no.
Pesach Sameach!
