14 April 2022: Happy Passover

Take your pick: Happy Passover, Happy Easter, Happy Ramadan

Nathaniel has issues with spasticity which causes his right leg to sometimes have spasms. To make the spasms stop, we push the leg down until it stops. One day Nathaniel’s right leg was having a spasm. I told him to lean on it and he did and it stopped. Then he was sitting and the same thing happened. I told him to put pressure on it and he pushed down with his left hand. It worked, with a bit of help from me.

Nathaniel’s eating is getting stronger. He still needs to be reminded to use his tongue more to move the food around in his mouth, but he can now eat chunkier food. Now we are working on drinking, which is a more advanced skill.

Last night during music therapy Nathaniel was very happy. He tapped his foot to the beat of Pesach music while he also shook a tambourine with his hand.

This morning, the caregiver put Nathaniel’s jacket on his lap and then turned around to continue getting ready. When he turned back, Nathaniel had put the jacket on his arm until the shoulder by himself!

For Seder, Daniel, Joe, and I along with two caregivers will join him in his apartment. In addition, a couple that has spent almost every Pesach with us since they made Aliyah will join. In fact, they even stayed with us at the hospital one year. She makes Nathaniel’s favorite chicken soup, and this year at the Seder he will be able to eat and enjoy it for the first time since the attack!
