Happy Tu B'Shvat. Birthday of the trees.

One day when Nathaniel was resting in bed, I went to see him. The lights were off, and I was told that he was sleeping. I heard what I thought were snoring noises, but then I saw his teeth. I wasn't hearing snoring, I was hearing snorting. He was laughing and trying to hold in the noise.

Nathaniel had to sign an official document. I thought I would have to hold his hand and direct him. He was quite resistant to my hand. I realized that he knew how to sign his name and didn't need my help.

One morning when the caregiver went into Nathaniel's room to wake him up, he asked Nathaniel how he was doing. Nathaniel put his hand up and displayed his thumb, index finger, and pinky. That is the sign language sign for "I love you." The caregiver thought it was connected to the hostage release, but didn't understand the full significance. Nathaniel is blessed with caregivers who he loves and who love him.

Nathaniel is getting quite proficient in moving around his apartment in his wheelchair using his arm and leg.

Nathaniel is currently with a group of a few injured soldiers in Davos, Switzerland, to go skiing and have a vacation. This is the first time he has been on a flight since he was injured, and the first time in his life he ever went skiing. The flight was challenging and then driving for a few hours in a rental car that was not customized for him was new. The caregivers who joined are amazing and are taking care of all his needs. After he finished skiing, we asked what he wanted to do tomorrow. No matter what options we suggested, he only wants to go skiing again. The air is pure and crisp, and is doing wonders for his health.
